This journey has been a mix of emotions....
Lets step back to almost a year ago.... I lost my father, my rock of support, suddenly on August 16th, 2012. This man may not have been perfect, but then again, who is? I was at work when I was notified. I tried to be strong for my kids, and the day before we buried my dad, I was inspired to spontaneously design a "grandpa" mission for my children. After all, life is short. This mission included the purchase of annual passes to Universal Orlando. We went to use our passes that very day. We had many happy memories made and in perfect timing to free our minds and hearts from the trials of burying a loved one.
Since burying my dad, it has been hard, as I have questions I want to ask, or things I want to tell him, or show him. His grand kids are growing and making memories without him here.... but life is short, so I continue to develop positive memories they will keep for a life time.
Months pass, and I decide I need to have a goal, I need to move forward. I decide to run in the Disney half marathon. In passing, I share this idea with my long time friend, Karen Bonk. Karen loved the idea, and we decided to do this together. Karen began researching the race, and wow... it was about a year out, and the race registrations were going fast. $160 a runner. Ouch. Karen stumbles across Give Kids the World's Inaugural Charity involvement.... a way to give back. A way to success of this idea.
Training has been spotty to this point, but I am now in a regiment, that doesnt work well in the rainy season, but I will find my way through. Through the aid of virtual runs and the support of my team, friends and family, I will succeed.
Fundraising has been a challenge. I hosted a Thirty-One Gifts fundraiser sale, and had a good "party" but not enough yielded in the form of fundraising. My raffle has soooo many goodies, and I am waiting for people to show an interest. Family has been a decent source of donations. Will you help? Any size donation helps. I have currently raised $217 of the $3000 goal. Help me reach the $500 by the end of July.
